Amalia Uys has been living her dream of being a performer from a very early age. During her school years she annually took part in the Pretoria Eisteddfod, public speaking in both English and Afrikaans and also performed in numerous school plays. In 2002 Amalia had completed her ballet training with the Royal Academy of Dancing with Honours in Grade 8, as well as her drama training with the Speech and Drama Guild- yet again with Honours in Senior 5. She also received Honours for her performance in the Gr. 5 exam for modern dancing. In 2003 she enrolled for a BA Drama degree at the University of Stellenbosch. After playing in numerous student stage productions, Amalia landed the role of “Sunshine” in a SABC2 sitcom called “Gabriel”, starring opposite well known actors like Marcel van Heerden, Tobie Cronje and Jo da Silva. After graduating in 2006, she wanted to continue her studies in Drama Therapy but early in March she landed the role of “Sanmari van Graan” in 7de Laan. Amalia starred in this popular soapy as one of the principle characters for more than six years. While working at Danie Odendaal productions many other opportunities have crossed her path. She starred in music videos for well known Afrikaans artists like Heinz Winckler and the boy band “Adam”, played a cameo part in the romantic comedy “Klein Karoo” under direction of Reghardt van der Bergh and starred as “Ruth” in Harold Pinter’s Nobel Prize winning play “The Homecoming” which opened at the Aardklop Arts Festival in 2012. Amalia left the set of 7de Laan early in 2013 and is now finding herself back where her love for acting was born- the stage. She plays “Betty” in “My Vrou se man se lyk se tas” (An Afrikaans translation of Ray Cooney’s West End production ‘Funny Money’). Amalia has a dream to look back on her career one day and know that she has thoroughly lived out her passion as a performing artist and has tried, tested and excelled in each and every opportunity this industry has to offer.
