This 10 member acappella music group from Stellenbosch’s Kaya Mandi Township always wow the crowds with their magical voices wherever they perform. Whilst comparisons with the famous Ladysmith Black Mambazo are inevitable, these musical sensations have forged unique harmony structures in various languages and styles that include Isicathamiya, Gospel, Traditional, isiXhosa, English, isiZulu, SeSotho and Afrikaans.
Abaqondisi have released 6 CD’s over the past six years. They have performed all over the country, including on such prestigious occasions such as ex-President Mandela’s 80th birthday bash, at the rugby test matches between South African and Italy in Durban and Port Elizabeth, and at festivals such as the Wingerdstok Rock, Stellenbosch and Spier Festivals.
Not only very popular at community level, where they perform at many society weddings, cultural and public events, graduation ceremonies and church services, they have also entertained at many corporate functions.
Their uniquely South African Magic harmonies have also stunned overseas crowds when they performed in Norway and Denmark and for United Nations dignitaries at their New York headquarters. Recently the group was given the award for the Best Mbube Music Performance by ASAMI for their album A Promised Land.
