ShenFM

Based: Cape Town

Shen has his own band gigs extensively. Averaging 25 gigs a month and gigs from Dubai to Dublin, Namibia to Stockholm, and all over SA, and collaborations with the likes of Vusi Mahlasela, Zolani (Freshly Ground), and Dino Moran, and opening for Prime Circle, Watershed and GoldFish amongst many others, there’s no stopping them!

Shen took to the concept of forming a band that could play all genres, mixes and styles of music – like a radio station. Hence the band name – SHENFM. When the band plays live, they weave each song into another without stopping, flowing from one song to the next just like a radio station would create an exciting mix of music that gets the listeners on their feet in the thrill of the sound. They do this not only with their original compositions as heard on the album, SHENFM; Season One, but also with their own takes of contemporary songs.

Shen loves mixing in African ethnic and world samples in to the mix, it no wonder he has such a love for this type of music from spending his childhood in the extremes of Southern Africa’s landscapes absorbing indigenous sounds and immersing himself in the rural rhythms of the Limpopo Province.

After moving to cape Town, and completing a jazz degree at UCT, Shen started his group with musical styles reflecting the diversity of african, rock and dance blended with the fine overtones of Jazz and Western traditions.

Why SHENFM?

Mixing in pop-rock contemporary styles fused with dance grooves, spiced up with african world samples, blended over with a jazz overtone, SHENFM is a must see
