Sandile Gontsana, started booming around 2005 when he was approached to join the outstanding UCT Big Band (conducted by Prof. Mike Campbell). He did some huge functions, corporate events and festivals around South Africa with the band as the Lead Vocalist. In 2006 Rashid Lombard (Cape Town International Jazz Festival Director) brought one of the MOST OUTSATNDING U.K based band, Jazz Jamaica featuring Soweto Kinch, Gary Crosby, Denys Baptise etc. for a South African Tour and to collaborate with South African Musicians. Sandile Gontsana, Melanie Scholtz, and Denay Willie were the 3 Singers who were chosen to do the tour with the band.

In 2007 he graduated and got his Performers Diploma in Music (Jazz Singing) at the University of Cape Town School of Music then went to Europe (Spain) in 2008 to do Motown Tribute Shows. Came back in the country in 2009 and enrolled at UCT again for his Post Graduate in Music (Jazz Singing). In 2010 he went back to the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival with the UCT Jazz Vocal Ensemble. He was chosen to be part of the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Band as the Lead Singer and did a South African Tour. This band also did one of the finest Jazz Festivals that South Africa hosts the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg. Sandile Gontsana’s greatest achievement was to win the Jazz Idols Open Mic Singing Competition 2010 and graduating at UCT School of Music (Jazz Singing) with Distinction.

Sandile Gontsana began to put together his own project/band that consist of his UCT Friends and the name of the band is Sandile Gontsana Band. The band has been existing since late 2006. The band consist of a Singer (Me), Pianist/Keyboardist, Bass Player, Drummer and a Tenor Saxophonost. The band has been doing a lot of Private Functions, Government and the choice of Music we perform differs from gig to gig and according to what the client requires (American Songbook, European Music, African Jazz, Afro. Pop).

Sandile has also been trying and enlarging his territory by getting involved in theatre (Musical Theatre). He was involved in a Huge Accapella Musical, NOAH OF CAPE TOWN which was rated “The First South African Accappella Musical” with 16 singers/actors. He was involved in the music of a Great piece called BOUNDLESS (in collaboration with UK Dancers/Actors). They have done shows in the UK (Birmingham) at the International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012.
