Based: Johannesburg

It was around this time that he started to explore standing up comedy. Within the first year, he was placed in the Savanna’s top 100 up-and-coming comics, and made it into the top 10. After that, he took his comedy all over the country, doing shows with fellow comics like John Vlismas, Robbie Collins, Joe Parker, The Goliaths and many more.

Within his first few years on the comedy scene, Lucky was nominated for a Comica’s Choice Award and continued to do shows all over South Africa. After a few years of doing advertising and comedy at the same time, he left agency life and decided to try his hand at radio. He got a job at Primedia and met Greg. Together, they became 947’s The Greg and Lucky Show.

Within a short is years, the show went from airing on Sunday nights 9pm to 1am to a weekday Afternoon drive show from 3pm to 7pm.

Light-Hearted, fund and energetic, lucky enjoys laughing and bring joy wherever he goes, whether it’s telling people his story of being adopted by a white Afrikaans Family, Making him “Lucky” to be a Du Plessis or being the Whitest Black Man because he cannot speak Vernac, and having to explain why is a story on its own…
