The masterfully funky conjoining of three of South Africa’s most prominent dance music talents and their unprecedented electro-tinged and soul-drenched collaboration can’t fail to crash charts and ignite dance floors worldwide.
Off the back of their tour of the Netherland in 2005, Flash Republic look set to turn their underground standing into commercial renown, thanks to a set of super tracks that sound like nothing else but that captivate from the off. On the tantalizing album “Time is now”, a variety of feel-good factors (across styles) collide: proggy loop-foolery meets booming house bottom end meets soul-ful vox meets electric guitar meets electro riffs. All rounded off with the kind of accomplished finish one would expect from a team who’ve done their time and paid their dues.
Their debut album “Time is now” was released in November 2005, their first single “Emergency” reached No.1 on the 5fm Top 40 on the Dec 25th and it was released on 12inch and Beat Port in Europe on Extrema Records based in the Netherlands. 2006 was also a hugely successful for the band. Not only were they asked to perform at the Robbie Williams after party, the launch of Virgin Money, Heat Hot 100 Awards but they also toured S.A as one of the opening acts for Audio Bullies, Stereo MC’s and Fat Boy Slim. Their 2nd single “Robot”, which is still play listed on 5fm and Highveld, reaching No10 on the top 40.
2007 is also turning out to be a successful year for the band. They recently opened for international hip hop star Kellis, there are some international remixes of ‘Robot’ in the pipeline and their 3rd single ‘Gave it up for music’ is currently sitting at No6 on the 5fm top 40 steaming up local airwaves! They are currently in studio working on their new album. It boasts a darker, fatter and more sophisticated club sound that is set to rock dance floors worldwide!
Enough sass for afternoon radio and enough savvy for the clubs, FlashRepublic are a highly promising proposition. Flash Republics ultimate goal is to keep pushing boundaries, keep producing cutting edge dance music and to soon claim their place as one of S.A’s top music exports.
