Brendan Murray: Merchant of Mischief
If you’re looking for Brendan Sean Murray, the actor, check out his latest international film 24 Hours to Live opposite Ethan Hawke, his latest local film Matwetwe (Wizard) by Kagiso Lediga or if you have the patience you can see him in Warrior on HBO International some time in 2019. On a good day, they’re the same guy.
Brendan has been a regular voice of local tv and radio adverts for 13 years. His past clients include MWEB, Momentum, Nedbank, Robertsons, BMW, Chevrolet, Mercedes, Engen, Sanlam, 10x Investments, Standard Bank, Checkers, Hyundai, Opel, VW and Tuffy’s recycled bottle to name just a few. Vodafone India being a stand-out challenge and success with the ZooZoo campaign he still voices winning 5 Grand Prix Awards in it’s first year.
After graduating top of his class from UCT’s acting department Brendan began a flirtation with in-character MC work as the Ballmeister for Hollard Life International’s conference at the Arabella Sheraton in 2007 (teaching hundreds of people to waltz before morphing into Diana Ross and lip-synching I will survive). Since then, he has been Ringmaster of the Vaudeville Burlesque Dinner Circus as Albert Beauvior; Main-stage MC for the Flamjangled Teaparty, Balkanology, Rocking the Daises, Synergy, RAMFEST, and Bazique on the festival circuit; host of numerous brand events (Jameson, Hendricks, Pernod Richard, Savanna, Standard Bank, GreenPop, Old Mutual); Master of Ceremonies or performed at gala charity dinners for charities like Reach for a Dream, Home of Hope and hosted one National Cheesecake Competition (For Lancewood in 2017, it was delicious).
He’s more than dabbled in Standup Comedy as one of the founders and original contributors to Zula Bar (2004-2009) and Armchair (2010-2016) Comedy Nights, even performing alongside Trevor Noah and Jon Vlismas in the Smirnoff International Comedy Festival at the Baxter in 2009, but prefers to indulge his comic flair and penchant for the obscure more on the theatre stage or in his scriptwriting these days.
Host and of national brands Renegade Bingo (Dick Steele) and the Tops at Spar Bierfest (Mayor Klaus UberHuber), Brendan is more than capable of just being himself to host everything from Billionaire’s Children’s Parties to Pub Quizzes and Standup Comedy for Ministers of the South African Parliament, oddly enough at the Arabella Sheraton where he started off seven years before.
